Description
Still life by Russian expressionist Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941), painted in 1915. Jawlensky moved to Munich in 1894 and became part of the growing modernist movement based in the city, which included figures like Wassily Kandinsky and other emigre artists. He was a key member of the influential Munich-based Blue Rider group, which included Kandinsky, Franz Marc, August Macke and Gabriele Munter.
