Description
A group of fashionable women enjoying tea in a country house garden by French artist Henry Caro-Delvaille (1876-1928), painted in 1902. A friend of French playwright and prankster Edmond Rostand (author of Cyrano de Bergerac), Caro-Delvaille is these days hardly spoken of though he enjoyed considerable success throughout his career. In 1905, Rostand commissioned him to oversee the design and decoration of the Villa d'Arnaga, Rostand's extravagant new home in Cambo-les-Bains in southwestern France. The villa has since been bought by the local municipality and is open to the public as a museum.
